1. Drink 8 Glasses of Water Each Day

Drinking 8 glasses of water a day makes an enormous difference in how you feel, especially your energy and mental clarity. Water helps to dilute toxins in the blood, for elimination via the kidneys, so drinking water helps your kidneys to function better. Adding a slice of ginger is another good option as is adding half a lemon squeezed into a glass of water, as lemon is a great antioxidant detoxifier and helps the liver flush away its toxins into the bowel.

2. Eat the 5 Big Superfoods Every Day

Superfoods simply are foods that press all the right health buttons: they are packed with nutrients and antioxidants, and free from anything bad for you, including too much natural sugar.

Seeds of Life
Everything grows from a seed. For this simple reason, seeds are jam-packed full of energy, protein and the nutrients necessary for plants to grow; and we grow from eating plants. Using a combination of seeds provides the best all-around superfood, but don’t buy roasted seeds or you will lose much of their benefit. You need a mixture of half flax seeds, and half sesame, sunflower and pumpkin seeds. This gives the correct balance of minerals and omega-3 and essential fats, and it tastes great. Have a tablespoon of these ground seeds each day, as grinding allows you to get the most nutrients out of the seeds.

Go for Greens
Darker green vegetables are packed with vitamin C, folate, and chlorophyll, all of which are exceedingly good for you. Have a serving every day of the “Super Greens Mix,” a pesto-style blend of dark green leaves and herbs, is a brilliant way to increase your intake dramatically of these flavanoids and vitamin C-rich ingredients. Have a serving of this on at least one of your meals each day (two servings is ideal).

Super Greens Mix

A good handful of watercress, rinsed and dried
A good handful of baby leaf spinach, rinsed and dried
A good handful of basil leaves
A good handful of parsley leaves
1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil or an omega-rich seed oil such as hemp or flax seed oil
Squeeze of lemon juice, to taste
Blend ingredients together in a blender or food processor. Mixture should hold together like a pesto. Add avocado (rich in vitamin E and protein) for a thicker consistency or cucumber (a very cleansing vegetable) for a thinner texture. You may also add sun-blush tomatoes or roasted peppers, olives, marinated artichoke hearts, pumpkin seeds, or pine nuts.

Cruciferous Vegetables Rule
Have a serving of broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, or kale every day. Vegetables whose leaves grow as a cross-cruciferous are all part of a special food family that enhances the liver’s capacity to detoxify. This includes cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, and kale.

Sulfur So Good
Have a garlic clove, a small onion, shallot, or four springs onions every day for sulfur-containing amino acids.
Sulfur drives a critical liver detox pathway, called sulfation. The amino acids in these foods also give the body the raw ingredients to make gluthathione, which drives another critical detox pathway. Red onions are especially good because they are high in quercetin, which is a natural anti-inflammatory, curbing allergic reactions and pain. Garlic has many other benefits, a key one being as a gut protector. It’s a natural antifungal agent, thereby helping to keep your digestive tract free of unwanted fungi and yeast. Also, check out ProNutrition’s ProCell Repair with MSM, an organic sulfur-containing ingredient.

Get Juicy
Drink a superfood juice or smoothie every day. Super-fruits are high in antioxidants to support your liver, high in folic acid, high in zinc and low in sugar. Blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries are the best all-around foods for anti-aging oxidants compared to other fruit. A serving of strawberries contains more antioxidant power than three apples or four bananas. Best of all are blueberries, which are especially rich in a type of flavanoid called anthocyanidins and proanthocyanidins. Other good fruits include oranges, grapes, and watermelon.

Although not a fruit, carrots are good combined with fruits for juices and smoothies. Carrots are great for you, and delicious with some apple or pear, and with ginger. Ginger is good for the digestion and a natural anti-inflammatory. You can also make vegetable juices if you prefer, but ideally have a juice containing carrot, and a juice containing berries or watermelon every other day if you haven’t already eaten these foods during the day. Switch your juice up with ProNutrition’s ProActive Reds [link to product] or ProActive Greens [link to product] and fresh, low-glycemic fruit and almond or coconut milk.

4. Take Detoxifying Supplements

You can further improve and support your liver’s ability to detoxify by supplementing the right combination of nutrients.

First, supplement a combination of digestive enzymes (ProZymes), [link to product] probiotics (ProBiotic Synergy), [link to product] and glutamine (ProGI Health). [link to product] Digestive enzymes digest your food, minimizing the chances of whole food proteins getting into the blood. Probiotics are essential beneficial bacteria, which also play a part in the digestive process. The strains Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacteria are recommended.

Second, take a teaspoon of glutamine powder (ProGI Health) [link to product] last thing at night to help maintain the integrity of the gut wall, your first line of defense from toxins.

The third recommendation is an all-around antioxidant or liver-support formula. ProCleance Picks are formula that has as many of the key liver support nutrients shown below:

  • • Vitamin C
    • Vitamin E
    • Coenzyme Q 10
    • Glutathione
    • N-Acetyl Cysteine
    • Alpha Lipoic Acid
    • Glycine
    • Glutamine
    • Calcium-D-glucarate
    • Milk thistle (silymarin)
    • DIM (broccoli extract)
    • MSM (a form of sulfur)
    • Trimethyl Glycine (TMG)

5. Do Detoxifying Exercises Every Day

Detoxification is about eliminating what is unnecessary. This is not only a process that happens in your body but is also a process for your mind and the environment you live in. Breathing and physical exercise that stimulates lymphatic drainage helps detoxification. Exercise has another important role to play—it is the generator of vital energy, called chi in Chinese medicine and ki in Japan. Any whole-body exercise is good for detoxification-brisk walking, jogging, swimming, ProPilates, [ProPilates main page] and ProYoga. [GroupFit: ProYoga]

Detoxifying Breathing and Meditation
Another way to generate vital energy is with meditation. It also helps to clear and detoxify the mind of endless thoughts.

Have a Detoxifying Massage
The body stores chemical toxins, physical tension, and negative emotions. A good massage helps to detoxify at every level by stimulating the circulation and lymphatic system, and mobilizing toxins. Regular massage is part of an ongoing strategy for detoxifying your life.

Detoxify your Life
Detoxify your mind by making a commitment to resolve an issue you have with someone. Detoxify your physical environment with a good spring-cleaning, incense, or aromatherapy oil.
